Salary hike calculator: what does your hike really add to your pay?
The percentage on your letter is a percentage of CTC. What matters each month is how much more lands in your account once income tax, PF and gratuity have taken their share. Enter your current CTC and the hike, or the new offer, to see both.
Enter your salary and the hike.
Your 10% hike adds ₹7,133 a month to your account — a 10% rise in take-home.
- Hike
- 10%
- CTC change
- +₹1,00,000/yr
- +₹8,333 a month
- New annual CTC
- ₹11.00 L
- from ₹10.00 L
Monthly in-hand pay
Estimated, new tax regime, after PF, Professional Tax and income tax.
Where the extra ₹1,00,000 a year goes
- Reaches your account (in-hand)
- +₹85,595
- Extra income tax (incl. cess)
- ₹0
- Extra PF (yours + your employer's)
- +₹12,000
- Extra gratuity provision
- +₹2,405
About 85.6% of the extra CTC reaches your monthly pay. PF and gratuity aren't lost: PF builds your EPF retirement balance, and gratuity is paid as a lump sum when you leave (generally after five years' service). They just don't show up in your monthly pay.
For context: Aon projects an average increase of 9.1% for India in 2026 (Salary Increase and Turnover Survey 2025-26), and Mercer projects a 9% median. Your 10% is above Aon's projection. Those are averages across industries, so your sector, rating and pay band matter more than the headline figure.

Know what your hike is worth? Here's what to do with it.
How the numbers are built
The hike formula, the in-hand gap, and the 2026 market, in plain language.
What's the formula for a salary hike?
Hike % = (new CTC − current CTC) ÷ current CTC × 100. Going from ₹10,00,000 to ₹11,50,000 is (11,50,000 − 10,00,000) ÷ 10,00,000 × 100 = 15%. Reversed, new CTC = current CTC × (1 + hike % ÷ 100). The percentage is exact arithmetic. The in-hand figures this calculator adds are estimates on its stated assumptions.
Why does in-hand pay rise less than CTC?
Part of every extra rupee of CTC never reaches your monthly pay. Your employer's PF and the gratuity provision sit inside CTC, your own PF (12% of Basic) is deducted, and income tax is charged on the extra at your top slab rate. If neither salary pays income tax, take-home rises by about the same percentage as CTC. Once tax applies, the gap opens.
What do Aon and Mercer project for 2026?
Aon's Salary Increase and Turnover Survey 2025-26 projects an average increase of 9.1% for India in 2026, up from an actual 8.9% in 2025. Mercer's Total Remuneration Survey projects a 9% median. Both are employer projections for annual appraisals across industries, so use them as a reference point, not a promise. Your sector, rating and pay band matter more.
How do I use this number when negotiating?
Negotiate in CTC, since that's what letters quote, but decide in monthly take-home, since that's what you live on. Know the in-hand figure you need, translate any offer into a hike % and a monthly in-hand change, and ask for the full salary breakdown. A bigger Basic or more variable pay changes your take-home even at the same headline CTC.

This is an estimate — not your payslip, and not tax advice.
- The hike percentage is exact arithmetic. The in-hand figures are estimates: this tool can't see your offer or revision letter, so treat them as a guide, not a guarantee.
- Both salaries use the same assumed structure: Basic at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of Basic, and PF at 12% of actual Basic. If your revision also changes how your CTC is split, your real take-home will differ.
- CTC is treated as fixed annual pay. Variable pay, performance bonuses, joining bonuses and ESOPs aren't modeled. If your hike is partly variable, enter only the fixed part for a realistic monthly figure.
- Professional Tax assumes Karnataka (₹2,500 a year). Other states charge different amounts, and some charge none, so the figure can be off by up to that much.
- The old regime here counts only the standard deduction and your own EPF under 80C. If you claim HRA, other 80C investments or home-loan interest, your real tax will be lower.
- The Aon and Mercer figures are their published projections for average or median annual increases across industries in India. They aren't AxureOne data, and they don't predict any individual's hike.
- This is not tax advice. It doesn't account for other income, prior-employer salary in the same year, or your residential status. Consult a chartered accountant or the Income Tax Department's official calculator before making financial decisions.
