Ask most people in India about GIFT City and you'll get one of two reactions: a blank look, or an assumption that it's "just banking." Both are out of date. Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, the country's only operational International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), has quietly become one of the more interesting places to hire and be hired in 2026 — and because it sits on our doorstep, we get asked about it constantly, from both sides of the table.

Here's the honest read: what's actually being hired, what it pays, and how a company or a candidate should approach it.

On the numbers in this piece

The salary bands and hiring signals below are compiled from public 2026 hiring commentary and policy, not a proprietary AxureOne survey. They're directional — meant to calibrate expectations before a conversation, not to quote back in a negotiation. The same job title genuinely pays differently across a GCC, an IFSC unit, and a services firm.

It's a finance-plus-tech corridor, not a bank

The most useful mental model for GIFT City hiring is a corridor where finance and technology overlap, rather than a single industry. On the finance side, the IFSC pulls in fund accounting, treasury, risk, compliance, and regulatory-reporting roles — work that has to operate at global standards because a lot of it faces international counterparties. On the technology side, the demand looks like the rest of India's product economy: full-stack and product engineering, DevOps and cloud-native builds, data and AI, and a cybersecurity segment that is genuinely supply-constrained.

Then there's the third stream: Global Capability Centres. As GCCs expand into GIFT City, they bring analytics, operations, shared-services, and compliance hiring with them — the same categories driving GCC growth nationally, where these centres now account for the majority of new specialist-staffing mandates in India.

The practical upshot: if you're a candidate who assumed GIFT City wasn't "for tech people," or an employer who assumed the local pool couldn't cover specialist roles, both assumptions are worth re-testing.

What it pays — and why we won't give you a neat table

You will find plenty of articles quoting confident GIFT City salary bands. We went looking for where those numbers come from, and the trail ends at unattributed aggregator blogs. So here is the honest position instead.

There is no credible role-level public salary dataset for GIFT City IFSC roles. The mainstream aggregators return two, three or four responses per finance role in Gandhinagar. That is not a market rate, and publishing it as one would be inventing data.

Indeed India, accessed July 2026. Self-reported and directional. Where the sample is too thin, we say so rather than round it into a band.

For context on the same source, that software-engineer figure compares to roughly ₹6.40 lakh in Ahmedabad, ₹8.27 lakh in Mumbai and ₹10.43 lakh in Bengaluru — so Gandhinagar prints marginally above Ahmedabad and materially below the metros. Sample sizes differ by an order of magnitude, so read it as shape rather than scale.

Two things worth flagging anyway. First, the spread widens fastest at mid-to-senior level, where compensation tracks scope and skill scarcity far more than years of experience — two people with the same "manager" title can sit a long way apart. Second, GIFT City units frequently compete with Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad budgets for the same scarce specialists, which pulls the top end up for genuinely in-demand skills even though the local cost of living is lower. When we're working a live mandate we benchmark from actual offer data on comparable roles, and we tell you plainly which numbers are ours and which are public.

For candidates: how to actually get in

If you want a shortcut on the last two points, our take-home salary calculator and offer-comparison calculator let you compare a GIFT City offer against a metro one on the number that actually lands in your account, not the number on the letter.

For employers: what it takes to staff here

The good news is that Gujarat is actively pushing hiring volume rather than leaving it to chance. The state's GCC Policy (2025–30) layers measures such as CTC reimbursement, EPF support, and capital incentives on top of the IFSC's own tax and regulatory framework, while targeting 50,000+ jobs. That changes the real cost of setting up and staffing, and it's worth modelling before you build a headcount plan.

The harder part is competition for scarce skills. For cybersecurity, cloud, data, and senior IFSC roles, you are not competing with "the local market" — you are competing with metro budgets for a small pool, wherever those people physically sit.

The short version

GIFT City in 2026 is a finance-plus-tech corridor, not a bank, hiring across IFSC finance, fintech, GCC operations, and mainstream technology roles. Pay bands are directional and widen sharply with scope and skill scarcity at the senior end. Candidates win by targeting the right stream and leading with what they've shipped; employers win by modelling the state incentives, benchmarking scarce skills against metro budgets, and selling the genuine quality-of-life trade rather than the finance label.

If you're building a team at GIFT City, or you're a candidate weighing a role there against a metro offer, that's exactly the kind of local call we're built to help with. Tell us what you're hiring for, or if you're job-seeking, tell us what you're looking for — either way you'll get a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
