Gujarat is having a moment that its hiring market hasn't caught up to in the public imagination yet. In the space of about a year, the state has become India's semiconductor capital, run the country's only fully operational international finance centre, and held its long-standing lead as India's number-one pharma state — all while its traditional manufacturing base keeps humming. We're based in Ahmedabad and work these roles every week, and the gap between what's actually happening on the ground and what most people assume about "hiring in Gujarat" is wide enough to be worth a proper report.

So here's one: a sector-by-sector, city-by-city read on Gujarat hiring in 2026, built entirely from public data.

What this report is — and isn't

This is AxureOne's synthesis of public 2026 data — the India Semiconductor Mission's project list, IFSCA's own quarterly bulletin, Gujarat government policy documents, and named salary aggregators with disclosed sample sizes. It is NOT a proprietary AxureOne survey, and nothing here should be read as our own primary research. Every figure is directional, meant to calibrate expectations before a conversation, not to quote back in a negotiation. Where we could not trace a widely-repeated number to a real source, we left it out rather than repeat it — including a few you'll see in other write-ups of this market.

The big picture: five engines, running at once

Most Indian states have one hiring story. Gujarat currently has five overlapping ones, and that's what makes it unusual:

  • Semiconductors and electronics — the newest and, in headcount-growth terms, the fastest. Gujarat has approved six semiconductor projects worth roughly ₹1.24 lakh crore, expected to create 50,000+ jobs.
  • GIFT City finance and fintech — India's first fully operational global finance-and-IT hub, home to 1,147 IFSCA-registered entities as of March 2026, up from 1,048 three months earlier.
  • Pharma and life sciences — Gujarat is India's number-one pharma state, with roughly a 33% share of drug manufacturing and 28% of drug exports.
  • IT and Global Capability Centres — anchored in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and pushed hard by the state's GCC Policy 2025–30.
  • Manufacturing — auto and EV around Sanand, chemicals and petrochemicals around Vadodara and the coast, plus textiles, diamonds, ceramics and engineering across Surat, Rajkot and Morbi.

The practical consequence: Gujarat is no longer a "back-office and factories" market. It now hires deep-tech, high-finance, and specialist life-sciences talent — and a lot of candidates and employers haven't updated that mental model.

Sector by sector

Semiconductors & electronics — the new headline

This is the story that changes Gujarat's talent profile. Micron's roughly $2.75 billion ATMP facility in Sanand was inaugurated in February 2026; Kaynes Semicon's OSAT unit in Sanand reached commercial production in March 2026, just over a year after breaking ground; and Tata Electronics' ~₹91,000 crore fab in Dholera — India's first full-scale chip fabrication plant, with Taiwan's PSMC — is targeting trial production by December 2026 and 20,000+ direct and indirect jobs. The demand this creates is broad: process and equipment engineers, cleanroom technicians, quality and reliability, supply-chain, plus the construction and facilities ramp around each site.

GIFT City — finance and fintech at global standards

GIFT City has crossed from "promising" to operational, and the growth rate is documented rather than promised: IFSCA-registered entities went from 1,048 in December 2025 to 1,147 in March 2026 — 99 net new licensed entities in a single quarter — spanning 37 IFSC banking units, 36 insurance offices, 217 fund management entities and 35 aircraft lessors. It's generating a category of hiring India didn't have much of before: roles that must operate to global standards from Gujarat. Think fund accounting, treasury, risk, compliance and regulatory reporting alongside genuine tech — fintech engineering, analytics, cybersecurity and global process ownership. We covered this in depth in our GIFT City hiring guide; for this report, the point is that it's now a material, high-value slice of Gujarat's demand.

Pharma & life sciences — the quiet number one

Gujarat's pharma lead is easy to overlook precisely because it's old news, but it remains the state's deepest specialist-talent market. Ahmedabad and Vadodara anchor it, home to names like Sun Pharma, Cadila, Torrent, Alembic, Intas, Zydus, Amneal and USV. The roles with genuine depth and progression here are QA/QC, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, clinical research, R&D and production — a career market few Indian states can match.

IT & GCCs — Ahmedabad steps up

Gujarat's IT story has matured beyond services into product engineering, cloud-native builds, full-stack and AI integration, with cybersecurity notably supply-constrained. The state's GCC Policy 2025–30 is actively courting capability centres, targeting 250 new units and 50,000 jobs with CTC reimbursement, EPF support and capital incentives. Worth noting honestly: those are policy targets, not delivered headcount, and Ahmedabad simultaneously topped Gujarat's list of registered jobless youth in February 2026. Demand and matching are different problems.

Manufacturing, auto/EV & traditional industry

Underneath the new headlines sits Gujarat's durable base: the Sanand auto and EV cluster, chemicals and petrochemicals around Vadodara and the coast, textiles and diamonds in Surat, ceramics in Morbi, and engineering and machine tools in Rajkot. Manufacturing wages nationally are rising (public estimates put increases near 9.8% for 2026), and Gujarat's industrial density means steady, high-volume demand for plant, quality, supply-chain and engineering roles.

What it pays

Here's where we have to be blunt, because most articles on this topic aren't. There is no credible role-level public salary dataset for Gujarat, and none at all for GIFT City IFSC roles. The neat "₹3.5–6 LPA for freshers, ₹20–42 LPA for senior" bands that circulate in write-ups of this market trace back to unattributed aggregator blogs. We went looking for their source and couldn't find one, so we're not repeating them.

Named public sources with disclosed samples. Directional, not a proprietary AxureOne survey — and deliberately incomplete where the data doesn't exist.

Two patterns worth internalising anyway. First, the spread widens fastest at the senior end, where pay tracks scope and skill scarcity far more than years of experience. Second, Gujarat's new sectors — semiconductors and IFSC finance — are pulling the top end up for specialist skills, because for those roles employers are competing with national budgets rather than local ones. We benchmark live mandates from actual offer data on roles we're working, and we'll always tell you which is which.

The city map

Gujarat's hiring isn't one market; it's a handful of specialised ones. Knowing which city does what is half the battle for a job search or a headcount plan.

The short version

Gujarat in 2026 runs five hiring engines at once — semiconductors, GIFT City finance, pharma, IT/GCCs, and manufacturing — which is why it now hires deep-tech and high-finance talent it never used to. Pay bands widen sharply with skill scarcity at the senior end, and demand concentrates by hub: finance in GIFT City, chips in Sanand and Dholera, pharma in Ahmedabad and Vadodara, engineering across Surat and Rajkot. Employers win by modelling the state incentives and matching hub to role; candidates win by targeting the right hub, chasing the new-sector premium, and comparing real income rather than headline CTC.
